Veteran Iain Lunan’s hat-trick helped Hopeman pick up their first victory of the Moray welfare football season.

Round-up of the rest of Friday’s matches.

The coast side, who drew 0-0 with Buckie Rovers in their opener, beat Elgin visitors Thunderton 4-0 last Friday.

The away team had a number of former Hopeman players in their ranks and pushed hard for the opening goal. Bryan Henderson fired an early free kick wide while Stewart McLaren went close for the home team on two occasions.

Hopeman broke the deadlock on 21 minutes when Lunan back-headed Chris Cooper’s long throw over keeper Darren Wood into the net.

Ryan Fiske and Lunan narrowly missed the target and Russell Geddes threatened for Thunderton but put his effort past the target.

Hopeman manager and goalkeeper Lee Spence came off his line to deny Thunderton attacker Raymond Anderson.

Right on half time the home side doubled their lead. Gary Burr’s deflected shot was saved by keeper Darren Wood, Fiske fired the loose ball off the post and Lunan was on hand to net at the third attempt from close range.

Lunan’s third arrived on 53 minutes, racing on to a fine McLaren pass to slip the ball past Wood and make it 3-0.

The hat-trick hero was replaced in a triple substitution and one of the replacements, youngster Calan Munro fired just wide from outside the box. Munro did get his name on the scoresheet on 81 minutes, shooting home after good work by Matt Herley in the box.
