By Jodie Mackay

JAUNTY riffs rippled through the MacMoray crowd on Sunday night as Chris Slade rocked the show to a triumphant close.

Slade and the Timeline band kicked off the final set with AC/DC’s ‘Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap’ a song nostalgic of the seven years Slade spent touring the world with AC/DC.

The 77-year-old, who is Welsh and travelled up from Kent, has played with some of the biggest names in the business, including Tom Jones, Asia, and David Gilmour.

Reminiscing on his time with AC/DC, he said: “It was fantastic. It’s always great. I have been working with top people all my life.

“They are all very different people but I’m pleased to be able have done a good job with all of them.”

Slade began his career playing jazz and credits this genre for enabling him to master all different music styles.

He added: “My style is an accumulation of all the things that I have absorbed from different artists. You learn as you go, and you pick things up. That’s how every musician learns.”

The band usually plays for upwards of two hours, but Slade was determined they would have an impact on the crowd during their shorter-than-usual set.

Slade still has many loyal fans from his AC/DC era who he regards as “superfans”.

He said: “We know there are some fans who have been to every single AC/DC show ever.

“I don’t know how many live up this way but it's surprising; they turn up all over the place!

“You can tell them apart because they have denim jackets with lots of patches – they look like bikers. It’s always nice to see those guys.”

One thing’s for sure, Slade finished MacMoray festival with a bang, the crowd making their way home on a rock n’ roll high.
