Moray's international triathlon duo Sophia Green and Cameron Main are in contention for a place at this year's Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and are getting the best preparation possible
COMMONWEALTH Games hopefuls Cameron Main and Sophia Green are benefiting from training with some of the UK’s top triathlon coaches.
The Moray Road Runners duo have been training at the British Triathlon Performance Centre at Loughborough University as part of an Olympic Performance Squad since last October.
The Stirling University graduates have Rob Bridges as their new head coach.
“He is our main coach but he is part of a really good team who we have access to,” said Main (22).
Bridges, a former runner himself, is head coach at East Midlands Triathlon Academy and a triathlon performance coach at Loughborough University.
Main and Green (21), both from Elgin, are relishing the next chapter in their athletics careers.

“We moved to Loughborough at the start of October and it is going well,” added Main.

Selection for the Scottish squad at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham this summer is their main goal in 2022. They also have Triathlon Scotland manager Fiona Lothian as part of their support team.
Main was third at the Dnipro Europe Triathlon Cup, and qualified for the World and European U23 Championships and senior European Championships in 2021.
The Elgin athlete was coached by his dad Russell until he was accepted into the Scottish Triathlon Foundation Squad in 2013 and since 2015 he has been part ofthe onto the Scottish Triathlon Development Squad in 2015
Green was selected as a reserve for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2018 which provided a learning experience being around and training with more experienced athletes.
Last year Green had two European Cup podiums and was selected for GB at U23 level for European and World Championships.
The pair were back in Elgin over the Christmas and New Year period visiting family and friends and also took the chance to run the 5k Elgin Parkrun on New Year’s Day.
Main (15.08) and Green (17.07) recorded the fastest ever times at the event. Green’s run was the fourth fastest Parkrun in the UK that day while Main’s was the seventh fastest.
“I like the course and it is pretty quick,” added Main.
Next up for the triathletes is a 5k at Battersea in London next month, as their build up continues with the Commonwealth Games in mind this summer.
