Buckie Thistle stalwart Andy MacAskill announces he will retire from Highland League football after Saturday’s match against Keith





It will be the end of an era in Highland League football when Andy MacAskill hangs up his boots next weekend.

The Buckie Thistle midfielder says he will retire from football after next Saturday’s match against former club Keith.

The 32-year-old started his career at Inverness Caley Thistle before starring for Keith alongside his brother Craig.

He made a switch to Turriff United then embarked on the long journey to Australia where he played for Queensland side Holland Park Hawks for a year.

Buckie snapped him up on his return to Scotland in 2017 and he won the league title with Jags last season.

“It has been a privilege to be part of the Highland League community and to represent fantastic clubs filled with good people, who dedicate so much time to the towns they come from,” he said on Buckie’s website.

“Thank you to each of my managers and coaches for their patience, guidance, and the belief they have shown in me.
