Rothes Football Club manager Ross Jack desperate to get back into action against Lossiemouth tomorrow as Speysiders have played just three Highland League fixtures in 12 weeks

With a League Cup quarter-final against Fraserburgh looming on the horizon, the Speysiders need match practice.

Since November 20, a combination of Covid issues and the weather has meant Rothes playing just three games in 12 weeks.

They managed back-to-back wins over Huntly and Wick in January, before the storms of two weeks ago and a frozen Clach pitch last week put them back on the sidelines.

Tomorrow’s home clash with Lossiemouth is weather dependent as well, with a wintry forecast hovering over Mackessack Park.

“You do get fed up with the games being off,” Jack said. “Mackessack was decent this week but with snow forecast we just don’t know.”

Rothes have played just nine of their scheduled 17 home league games and also have Fraserburgh at home in the cup, leaving Jack with pitch concerns.

“My big fear is that if we have too many home fixtures back-to-back we won’t be able to complete them because the pitch won’t be able to cope."

Jack also has selection worries to deal with, having watched Jack Brown, Ali Stark and Kane Davies leave the club in recent weeks while Wayne Mackintosh’s season is over due to a knee injury. In addition, Lewis Hyde has been recalled by parent club Caley Thistle.

“We will have 14 outfield players to face a Lossiemouth team who are unbeaten this year so far, so we know it won’t be easy for us.”
