North of Scotland Tennis Championships in full swing at Elgin Lawn Tennis Club





THE North of Scotland Tennis Championship is in full swing at Elgin Lawn Tennis Club, with a number of finals to be played across Friday and Saturday.

A total of 141 players entered the competition, which got underway on Sunday, July 23, and will finish on Saturday evening. There was action across 33 events.

Under-10 and under-11 boys and girls were in round-robin action on Sunday and Monday mornings, before it was the turn of the under-14s on Wednesday morning.

The under-14 boys doubles was won by Callum Gillies and Finlay Macleod, while the girls under-16 final took place on Thursday evening (after we went to print) – with the boys on Friday morning.

Freddie Sharp, of Grafton Tennis Club, won the boys' under-18s final, defeating second seed Benjamin Currie, of Cults, 6-2 6-1.

In the women's doubles final Isla Dickinson and Kirsty Mccalman will be taking on June Buchan and Jasmin Taylor.

Jasmin Taylor will also compete in the women's singles final, having beaten Jessica Nairn 6-0 6-0 in the semi-final.

Stephen Anniss and Logan Urquhart will take on Adam Irvine and Jack Mullan in the men's doubles final.

The men's singles – the most popular event, which started with a round of 32 – is now entering the semi-final stage.
