Two Scottish novice titles for Elgin Amateur Boxing Club who have four boxers involved in the Boxing Scotland open championships over the next two weekends
ELGIN Amateur Boxing Club will be going for more glory at the Scottish Open Championships over the next two weekends.
Four of the club’s boxers will take on the best in the country at their weight category in the Ravenscraig sports centre.
Former Commonwealth Games fighter Megan Gordon celebrates her return to the competitive ring.
The daughter of club head coach Paul Gordon, who won a Youth Commonwealth Games bronze earlier in her career, took time out from her sport due to a bad hand injury then saw her return delayed by Covid.
Fraser Edwards, who has won Scottish titles at novice, intermediate and open class in the past, has moved to the 71kg category and faces a tough challenge against some established rivals.
“We’ve also got Corey Rizza in a straight final,” Gordon added. “Even though he is still 75 kg he is boxing at the 80kg weight so it will be a test for him.”
RAF boxer Arran Devine also boxes with the club and will go for glory in Motherwell.
Elgin ABC sent ten boxers to the recent Scottish novice championships and Tyler Sked won gold in 46kg schools category.
Josie Walls triumphed in her senior 50kg bout, while fellow female fighter Faith Ross was unlucky to lose her 63kg final on a split decision.
“On the novices, it was one of those where the performances didn’t match the results,” Gordon added. “Everybody boxed brilliantly and we lost a few on split decisions.”
Another Elgin boxer, David Reid, is now a Boxing Scotland referee and a judge.
