Highland League midweek: Forres Mechanics defeat Lossiemouth in Moray derby helped by keeper Cammy Farquhar’s penalty save against old club and Turriff United have two sent off including manager in Nairn County loss
A penalty save by their former goalkeeper plotted Lossiemouth’s downfall in Wednesday’s Highland League Moray derby.
Visitors Forres Mechanics posted a 3-0 win at Grant Park, but the outcome hinged on a spot kick award midway through the second half.
An early Jordan Alonge goal had Mechanics in front at half time before Lossie were given the chance to level from a penalty.
Facing up to former Coasters’ keeper Cammy Farquhar, the home side spurned their chance as on-loan Buckie Thistle striker Liam Harvey’s kick was saved by Farquhar.
The game was still in the balance until the closing six minutes when two goals in quick succession by Calum Frame and Alonge with his second wrapped up all three points for Forres.
There was a second Moray derby at Rothes which was decided by a solitary goal.
Keith’s Nathan McKeown netted shortly after half time to give the Maroons victory, extending Rothes’ run without a win to 17 games - 16 of them defeats.
Huntly’s disappointing run continued with a fourth straight defeat, losing out to a visiting Deveronvale side.

Adam Reid put the Banff outfit in fromnt after seven minutes and it stayed 1-0 until the closing five minutes.
Cammy Angus pounced to double Vale’s lead and effectively seal the win, although Michael Clark’s 90th minute counter for Huntly made the away team sweat it out.
Banks o’ Dee returned to third place with a 3-1 win at home to Fraserburgh.
Two Andy Hunter goals midway through the second half clinched the success after Scott Barbour’s 51st minute leveller for Broch had cancelled out Max Alexander’s Dee strike on the stroke of half time.
It was a bad night for Turriff United after having their manager and a player sent off in a 2-0 loss at Nairn County.
Andrew Greig’s goal had County ahead at the break and when the home team was awarded a disputed penalty ten minutes after the interval, United boss Warren Cummings was red carded and Ben Barron scored his sixth goal in four games from the spot.
Turriff misery was completed when Callan Gray was sent off with 20 minutes to go.
