Highland League football: Rothes confirmed as bottom side after Strathspey Thistle’s result at Keith while Huntly lose for sixth game in a row
The Highland League wooden spoon team has been confirmed for this season after Wednesday night’s matches.
Rothes will finish as the bottom club following Strathspey Thistle’s 4-1 win at Keith.
The Speysiders have been pretty much resigned to their fate for some time now, and finish a miserable season with what promises to be a title party on Saturday.
Rothes are away to Brora Rangers, who need to win to clinch the championship and are expected to comfortably do that.
Strathspey recovered from losing a very early goal at injury-hit Keith to clock up their fourth league win of the term.
Nathan McKeown put the Maroons in front after just three minutes, but that was about as good as it got for the home side.

Daniel Whitehorn equalised ten minutes before the break and Cammy Lisle edged the Grantown men ahead for the first time on 49 minutes.
Paul Brindle’s penalty and a second for Whitehorn embellished Jags’ lead in the closing ten minutes.
The night’s two other matches were decided late in the contest.
Fraserburgh inflicted a sixth straight defeat on hosts Huntly thanks to Willie West’s 82nd minute goal.
And Formartine United saw off Nairn County 2-0 with Jonny Crawford and Scott Adams on target inside the final 12 minutes.
The season concluded with a full programme on Saturday, and if Brora go on to clinch the title they will move forward to a two-legged play-off against Lowland League champions East Kilbride to decide who plays the League 2 bottom club for a place in the SPFL next term.
