Highland League football derby between Buckie Thistle and Deveronvale attracts pyro display from fans despite Victoria Park club’s threat to search and ban supporters carrying flares or fireworks

A Highland League football ground was lit up by a pyro display as fans ignored pleas not to take fireworks and flares to a derby match.

Buckie Thistle warned supporters attending Wednesday night’s match against Deveronvale that they could be searched by stewards and banned if they were found in possession of pyrotechnics.

However, Facebook videos show the terraces of their Victoria Park ground glowing in the darkness as numerous flares were ignited prior to kick off.

The Banffshire derby fixture has attracted pyros in the past, and the Jags committee were keen to avoid a repeat performance at the latest meeting.

Past matches between Buckie and Deveronvale have attracted pyros.

The club said on a social media post: “"The Scottish FA prohibits the use of pyrotechnics in stadiums, including fireworks, flares, smoke canisters, and other dangerous items.

“It is a criminal offence to bring pyrotechnics into a sporting stadium in Scotland.

Buckie said after being told of a planned pyrotechnics display at Wednesday’s game, they were authorised to carry out random searches of supporters as they entered the ground.

“Anyone refusing to be searched could be refused entry to the match, as per SFA ground regulations,” said the club.

“Anyone caught with or using pyrotechnics inside Victoria Park will be ejected from the ground, banned from attending matches and reported to the relevant authorities.”
