Forres Mechanics appoint former Ross County defender David Mackay as first team coach alongside manager Steven MacDonald and assistant Mark Holmes at Mosset Park
An experienced former Ross County and Elgin City defender has joined Forres Mechanics’ management team.
David MacKay will work alongside manager Steven MacDonald and his assistant Mark Holmes as a first team coach with the Mosset Park club.
The 49-year-old was a firm favourite at County during their formative Scottish League days in the 1990s, and had a spell at Elgin during their second campaign in Division 3.
He was a team-mate of MacDonald’s at Elgin in the Scottish League and Clach in the Highland League - they were title winners in 2003-04 - and also played for Deveronvale. He also had a spell as Clach manager.
“Steven asked me several times to come in, but the timing was never right, so instead, I worked behind the scenes on recruitment and scouting as and when was needed,” MacKay said on Mechanics’ Facebook page.
“I’m hoping to bring my experiences of my playing career and in management to help the players as individuals and the team improve.”
MacDonald is pleased to get his former team-mate on board at Mosset Park.
“David has been a massive help working with me since I took over the job, but various other commitments have prevented him from joining Forres officially,” he said. “David already knows so much about the club and the players, so hopefully, that will make it easier for him joining us.”
“I'm obviously delighted David can join us in person now with his huge experience in the game. Mark Holmes has been great since he joined us, and he knows David well, so I'm looking forward to us all working together.”
