Elgin City make it three wins in a row in William Hill League Two as sub Dajon Golding’s strike defeats Bonnyrigg Rose

Elgin City made it three wins in a row in William Hill League 2 with a crucial 1-0 success at bottom club Bonnyrigg Rose.

The Black and Whites had lost in each of their last four visits to new Dundas Park but won thanks to supersub Dajon Golding’s 72nd minute strike.

Elgin manager Allan Hale handed striker Dylan Gavin his first start since January, with Golding dropping to the bench having netted in last week’s 2-1 win at Spartans.

Kyle Girvan and Ross Draper were also brought into the starting eleven in defence, Brian Cameron and Owen Cairns making way.

The wind played its part in proceedings with neither side creating too many chances in the first 45 minutes.

City keeper Aidan Glavin had to deal with a Lee Currie free kick and Ryan Porteous went close, while Andy McNeil was twice called into action to deal with efforts by Gavin and Girvan before the break.

Gavin forced another good save after the break, then was replaced by Golding on 70 minutes with Cameron coming on for Kyle Fleming.

The sub made an immediate impact, netting from close range just two minutes after coming on for his second goal in two games and his sixth of the season.

Rose pushed hard for an equaliser with Glavin saving from Kieran McGachie and Porteous narrowly missing the target with a header.

Golding fired wide with an opportunity to score again in the 89th minute.

Bonnyrigg forced a succession of corner kicks in stoppage time but City stayed resolute to seal a crucial result.

With Spartans seeing a 2-0 lead at East Fife turn into a 4-2 loss, Elgin have opened up a six point gap on the Edinburgh side between fourth and fifth spot in the race for the play-offs.

Third-placed Edinburgh City lost 2-1 at Stirling Albion, so Elgin drew level on points and Edinburgh have a slightly superior goal difference.
