Watch Albion Rovers goals as Elgin City lose 3-0 in Coatbridge and miss out of chance to move into play-off places

A second half collapse denied Elgin City the opportunity to move into the League 2 play-offs on Tuesday night.

City's poor run of form continued as they went down 3-0 at Albion Rovers.

A victory would have catapulted the Black and Whites into fourth place but instead they remain seventh.

Manager Gavin Price said that his team needs to be conscious of league safety as well as trying to push for promotion, such are the fine margins in a tight League 2 table.

Elgin are still seven points above bottom club Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic, but will need to recapture some form over the closing 12 matches to avoid a scrap near the foot of the table.

Rovers talisman Charlie Reilly was again a thorn in City's side, scoring twice and setting up the third goal in last night's match.

Reilly scored a brilliant 30-yard free kick against City in a recent 1-1 draw at Borough Briggs.

And after a goalless first half in Coatbridge, the midfielder rounded Elgin keeper Tom McHale who had rushed out to the edge of his penalty area and slotted Albion into the lead a minute after half time.

The home advantage was doubled when on-loan Aberdeen full back Evan Towler fouled Rovers Joe Bevan in the box for a penalty that Reilly converted.

Reilly then swung over a free kick from the right for centre back Ayrton Sonkur to head home and seal City's fate.

The Borough Briggs side head to leaders Dumbarton on Saturday having won just two of their last 11 outings, one of those wins being against non-league Drumchapel United in the cup.
