Winners of Rotary Treasure Trail and Cycle are announced

WINNERS of a popular summer treasure hunt and cycle organised by local Rotary clubs and Rotaract Moray have received their rewards.

The Rotary Treasure Trail and Cycle – organised by Rotaract secretary Aleisha Kelman – saw youngsters and adults alike tasked with taking part in treasure hunts in Moray and Aberdeenshire towns.

The objective for competitors was to search for four posters in each of Forres, Elgin, Keith, Buckie, Banff and Huntly between July 2 and August 14.

Those who found all posters in one town were entered into a prize draw, with those who did it in all six towns entered into the grand prize draw.

The four winners were Zoe Davis (under 12s prize); Rory Winter (under 12s grand prize); Davie Small (over 12s prize) and Nicola Belcher (over 12s grand prize).

Young winners were given hampers that contained activity books, sweets and chocolate, with Rory receiving a £25 voucher to spend in Aberdeen, where he's from.

Adults were given Moray Gift Card vouchers, which were donated, bottles of champagne and chocolate.

Organiser Aleisha said: "The main aim of the event was to have something free and enjoyable that people could do during the school summer holidays.

"It was also to raise the profile of Rotary a bit. Both of those aims have been achieved.

"We had 70 individual entries – with about 25 kids taking part – and I'm really pleased with that turnout.

"A lot of people took part as a family and entries were well spread across the towns, and quite a lot entered the grand prize, meaning they did all six towns.

"We had people enter legs of the cycle – and two completed the full cycle from Forres to Huntly and Banff, which is good because it is a fair distance.

"Everybody who entered said they were enjoying it and that it was something different. It meant they could see parts of Moray and Aberdeenshire that they hadn't been to before."

The event may return next year, but Aleisha – who was Rotaract president until July – says that decision is no longer her's and will have to be made next summer.
