These 'literary' gates can be found at the entrance to a derelict farm in the Cabrach.

The Slough of Despond is a deep bog in John Bunyan's devotional work The Pilgrim's Progress, which was written during in 1678.

The title character, whose called Christian, sinks into the bog under the weight of his sins and his sense of guilt for them.

With its many religious references the Pilgrim's Progress can be pretty tough going for a modern .

However during its time it was the second most popular book in Britain, only beaten by The Bible.
