Diamond couple say they’d do it all again!

A Moray couple have celebrated their diamond jubilee, declaring they would do it all over again after 60 years together.

Jean Harrower, a resident at Wakefield House care home in Cullen, and her husband Harold, a former resident, marked the milestone anniversary surrounded by friends and family.

Though Harold was in hospital, Jean visited him there to ensure they could celebrate their special day together.

Their 60-year love story began in the halls of Chalmers Hospital in Banff, where Jean, a nurse, was caring for Harold's father, Tom. Their paths crossed again at the Keith Show Dance, and they began courting.

They married at Fordyce Church on 10 October 1964. The reception took place at Peggy Duffs pub in Cornhill and, by all accounts, everyone had a "rare time" celebrating the happy couple.

Jean and Harold first set up home in Fordyce before moving to Portsoy, where Jean continued her nursing career and eventually became Matron at Campbell Hospital. Harold worked as a lorry driver and mechanic, and together they raised three daughters - Tricia, Esther and Katrina.

Their family has since grown to include four grandchildren in the shape of Jamie, Claire, Euan and Ellie.

When asked if they would do it all over again, Jean and Harold did not hesitate - both agreed they'd marry each other all over again.

Ruth Smith, manager at Wakefield House, said: “Jean and Harold are such a special couple and everyone at Wakefield House wishes them a wonderful 60th wedding anniversary.”
