Moray Cup mania in Macduff as soft drink returns at Deveron Direct
A legendary north-east soft drink’s return saw people flock to get a taste of the fizzy favourite.
Long queues of customers and gridlocked traffic formed at Deveron Direct in Macduff on Friday morning as they were some of the first to get their hands on the new Moray Cup.
Previously made by Sangs, the drink has returned after it was discontinued seven years ago.
It went on sale at the Macduff cash and carry on Friday morning.
The return of Moray Cup has been highly-anticipated in the north-east.
First in the queue at Deveron Direct were Deborah Alexander, Jessica Alexander and Charles Green of Marco’s Chipper, Buchanhaven, Peterhead.
Deborah said: “We got up early to be here as we knew there would be a queue so we were delighted to see we were first.
“Everyone has been so excited for the new Moray Cup and the customers have been asking when it is coming in.
“I’m really looking forward to it being back as it has been years since it has been away.
“With all the excitement for Moray Cup we are going to hold a competition for our customers to win some bottles along with their food.”
Deveron Direct’s Des Cheyne and Kenneth West said: “We have been overwhelmed with the response for the return of Moray Cup.
“We have been gobsmacked to see our car park and Station Brae gridlocked such has been the demand.
“Hopefully everyone will enjoy the product we have produced.”
At the moment the fruit-flavoured drink is to be a limited release and exclusive to Deveron Direct.
However, Mr Cheyne said that it is “early days” on whether it will be here to stay.
