Moray Council – Seven-fold rise in staff paid more than £60k

Seven times as many Moray Council employees earn more than £60,000 compared to six years ago.

The total has risen from 30 back in 2019 to the current number of 211.

That information was provided by the council in response to a freedom of information request submitted by this paper.

In addition, over the same time period the number of employees earning more than £75,000 has multiplied by more than five, rising from a dozen to the current total of 65.

Meanwhile, those receiving annual salaries above £100,000 have gone from just one in 2019 to three at present.

According to an inflation calculator on the Bank of England’s website, anyone being paid £60,000 now would have been in receipt of a £47,776 salary back in 2019.

Moray Council employs approximately 5300 staff across a wide range of services.

Their employees include teachers, manual workers, administrators and managers.

The average salary across all working people in Moray is around £28,400.
