Deveronvale fundraiser will support appeal to install new floodlights at Banff’s Princess Royal Park

A football club is holding a fundraiser for new floodlights at its pitch after they were damaged in a storm.

Deveronvale’s Princess Royal Park ground was impacted by Storm Gerrit last Christmas, which saw one of the floodlight supports blown off its base by the gale force winds.

The club is now looking to replace all of the floodlights at its pitch, which were first installed 37 years ago.

Vale had initially planned to hold a sportsman’s dinner to raise funds featuring Aberdeen FC legend Eoin Jess and Ted Christopher, famed for his Tartan Army songs.

That event will be held at the Fife Lodge Hotel in Banff on Saturday, October 26 but the proceeds will now go to Deveronside goalkeeper Adam Golebiewski, who had to have both his legs amputated after he was in a horror car crash.

The money will support Adam and his family with his “life-changing recovery”.

Deveronvale will now hold a separate fundraiser for its floodlights appeal.

It will be an evening of rock music including punk, new wave and indie, featuring the bands Vitamin T and Mondo Bizzaro.

The event will be held at The Knowes Hotel in Macduff on Friday, October 18 at 7.30pm.

A Deveronvale spokesman said: “Initially, the sportsman’s dinner fundraiser was going towards our floodlights appeal as we have to purchase new ones following the collapse of a unit last year during Storm Gerrit.

“But with Adam’s dreadful accident we felt our main fundraiser should go to him and his family.

“We have now organised the evening of rock music fundraiser for the floodlights appeal which we are looking forward to and hope people will be able to support.”

The event has been sponsored by Inverurie Whisky Shop.

Tickets are priced at £10 and can be purchased from the Deveronvale website.

People can also pay on door by card or cash.
