Ramsdens confirms new store to open in Elgin this month after St Giles Centre displacement
A retailer which was displaced after the closure of the St Giles Centre has confirmed it will open a new store in Elgin after finding a new location within the town centre.
Ramsdens confirmed that it would seek to stay in Elgin after the closure of the shopping centre on January 20 earlier this year.
The firm said at the time it was “disappointed” with the closure but has now confirmed it will open a new store at 12 Batchen Street later this month thanks to assistance from Elgin firm CCL Property.
Peter Kenyon, CEO of Ramsdens, said: “We’re delighted to confirm that Ramsdens will open a new store in Elgin later this month, following the forced closure of our shop in St Giles Centre in Elgin earlier this year.
“Our new store will offer all of the same great value services, including foreign currency exchange, new and pre-owned jewellery, pawnbroking services and gold buying.
“All pawnbroking loans which have been temporarily moved to our Inverness store will be relocated back into Elgin when we re-open.
“We’re really pleased that all members of our Elgin team will be moving to our new location, and they are looking forward to welcoming both new and existing customers very soon.”
News of Ramsdens’ new store comes after David Cameron, the sole director of the firm behind the St Giles Centre, requested the appointment of liquidators on February 28.
Creditors have been given until Wednesday, March 19, to submit their interests in the company.
