Moray Inshore Rescue Organisation has accepted £400 from Burghead Primary School
Pupils have donated £400 they raised at two school performances to a life-saving local charity.
Findhorn-based Moray Inshore Rescue Organisation (MIRO) volunteers were delighted to receive the proceeds from Burghead Primary’s Christmas concerts held in their village hall in December.
Acting head teacher, Martin Collins, confirmed the children nominated MIRO to receive the donations.
He said: “We held the concerts in the community hall this year as it’s bigger than our school assembly hall and able to seat more people. We had a full house at both events!
“Fostering the links between the school and the wider community is very important to us. It was especially good to have such a mix of young and old, with members of local organisations, such as the Ball group and the community Hub coming along, as well as parents and carers.
“We did not charge for tickets but collected donations at the door. Living on the coast, our pupils are familiar with the lifesaving service that MIRO provides so decided they would be a worthy recipient.”
MIRO covers Findhorn bay and the inshore waters of the Moray Firth between Burghead and Nairn., operating with volunteers on call 24/7. They responded to 14 emergency callouts in 2024.
MIRO chairman, John Low, said: “We rely totally on donations and are so grateful to the Burghead Primary pupils, staff and the wider community for choosing us to donate their funds too.
“We were delighted to visit the school to receive the donation and look forward to going back to talk about water safety and the role MIRO plays in helping to save lives.“
