The Northern Scot to be represented at Scottish Press Awards by journalist Lewis McBlane
The Northern Scot will be represented at the Scottish Press Awards for a second successive year.
Journalist Lewis McBlane has been nominated in the Weekly Journalist of the Year category at the prestigious awards ceremony.
He will look to go one better than last year, when he was named runner-up in the same category at an awards night in Glasgow.
The nomination adds to a growing list of nominations and awards for Lewis.
He was named Reporter of the Year at this year’s Highlands and Islands Press Awards and was nominated for Private Eye’s Paul Foot Award in 2024 for his investigative work on the dualling of the A96.
Highland News and Media’s politics reporter Scott Maclennan, based in Inverness, won that title last year. He is once again in the running and will be aiming to retain his crown.
Meanwhile, The Inverness Courier, The Northern Scot’s sister paper, has shortlisted for a prestigious title.
It is in contention to defend the weekly Newsbrand of the Year Award - which showcases its website, app, newsletters and print editions - which is won last year.
Highland News and Media’s politics reporter Scott Maclennan might also retain his weekly journalist of the year title which he collected last time around.
Overseen by Newsbrands Scotland, winners will be announced in Glasgow on May 22.
Richard Neville, chair of the judging panel, said: “As ever, the quality of entries to the awards just keeps getting better and better.
“The diversification of skills is more evident than ever before and publications across the country are finding new ways to tell great stories, as well as serving their traditional audiences with the quality content they expect.”
