New restaurant plans for Elgin High Street
A planning application has been made to turn a former betting shop on Elgin High Street into a restaurant.
The application submitted to Moray Council is asking for permission to convert the old William Hill branch, which has been empty for some time.
A supporting statement from Glasgow-based Bennett Developments and Consulting on behalf of its clients Sava Estates said the 180 m sq site would become a "quality restaurant".
The application says: "Access will continue to be via the existing doors directly off of the High Street, and will lead into the restaurant.
"Upon entering , directly ahead will be the bar/servery beyond which will be the kitchen, prep areas and storage including a waste/refuse storage facility.
"At the rear will also be gents and ladies toilets as well as an accessible toilet.
"Externally the only change to the property will be the erection of the kitchen extraction flue."
It adds that the anticipated opening hours will be Sunday to Thursday 10am-11pm, and Friday and Saturday 10am-midnight.
Sava Estates has been behind plans to convert several empty properties in the North East.
In October it gained planning permission from Aberdeenshire Council to change the former Farmfoods store in Inverurie into a restaurant.
However, the same authority turned down a similar application in 2019 regarding the former Turriff branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland.
