A “barely conscious” man was rescued from Loch Lomond on Saturday night after lifeboat crews heard his calls for help.

Police said they received a report someone was in the water near Balmaha shortly before midnight.

A “multi-agency response” was triggered, with a lifeboat, rescue helicopter, Scottish Fire and Rescue Services and the Scottish Ambulance Service rushing to the scene.

The man was located when the crew of the Loch Lomond Rescue Boat (LLRB) heard calls for help coming from Inchcailloch Island and from the water.

After recovering the man from the water the crew administered care while bringing him to Balmaha pier, where he was handed to the Scottish Ambulance Service.

He was taken by ambulance to Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for observations.

The LLRB then headed back to Inchailloch Island to collect three other people and return them to the mainland. All three were described as “safe and well”.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.55pm on Saturday March 22 2025, police received a call regarding a person in the water near to Balmaha.

“Around 12.35am on Sunday March 23 2025, Luss Rescue rescued a man from the water and took him to Balmaha Pier, where he was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for observations.

“The man and three friends had been on Inchcailloch Island. The three men were assisted from the island to the pier at Balmaha.”
