An Inverness bar is to host a new music-competition - through January with the chance to record a single and video the prize.

The Eagle Bar has announced that every Friday and Saturday night throughout January it will host The Highland Battle Of The Bands.

Eighteen slots will be made available at the Baron Taylors Street venue in the city centre for musicians from across the Highlands.

They will be asked to showcase their skills and judged by an eclectic pool of local tastemakers and musicians.

The grand finale has been set for Friday, January 31 with the winning band being presented with a substantial package that includes recording a single at Gargleblast Studios in Hamilton with established producer Andy Miller (Mogwai, The Fratellis) and the shooting of a professional video courtesy of Caithness film company Big Box Network and to be directed by Charlie Wilson

Eagle Bar booker Stuart Thain said: “This is a great opportunity for young emerging acts in the Highlands and we are delighted with The Eagle for providing this opportunity.

"We’re sure all the acts taking part - and audience - will enjoy the events and have fun.”

Interested acts can email a soundcloud link to eaglebarbooker@gmail.com and should also state where they are from in the Highlands.

Submissions close Sunday, December 15.
