Portsoy Folk at the Salmon Bothy event will feature Huntly singer Iona Fyfe
A community folk group will welcome a multi award-winning singer to its upcoming concert.
Folk at the Salmon Bothy’s next Friday night event takes place on April 18, which will focus on Scots traditional song.
Huntly-born singer Iona Fyfe will perform two extended sets on the night.
She graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow and has recently returned from an extensive performing tour in Canada.
Folk at the Salmon Bothy chairman Bob Philips said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Iona back to Portsoy, where she has performed at Folk at the Salmon Bothy events since she was a promising and talented 13-year-old entering the folk club scene.
“Iona displayed a ferocious appetite to study and learn the folklore of her region and has deservedly become a champion of Scottish traditional music and song. We know a great night of entertainment awaits.”
A near capacity audience attended Folk at the Salmon Bothy’s monthly music gathering in March to enjoy an Irish themed programme of entertainment.
A variety of songs and tunes were performed, including two excellent sets by Alyson and Neil MacConnachie.
Alyson, a singer and songwriter, concentrated on covering songs from the repertoire of Mary Black, the senior member of the famous Irish singing Black family.
All are welcome to attend the Iona Fyfe event. Tickets are priced at £5 and can be purchased from Bob Philips at bobportsoy@gmail.com, or by calling 07968872217.
