Moray girl's haircut raises £1100 for Little Princess Trust
A MORAY girl has raised more than £1000 while donating her hair to Little Princess Trust.
Olivia Williams (8), from Elgin, decided to cut her hair off after vowing to "help anyone poorly who has lost their hair and needs mine".
The youngster had 10 inches of her hair cut off after finding Little Princess Trust online while searching for ways to help others.
The charity provides real hair wigs to youngsters who have lost their own hair through cancer.
In addition to the donation of the hair, the head shave, which took place at Strand Hair Room on June 23, saw £1100 raised via donations.
"I hope my hair makes someone feel special and happy," Olivia said.
"I wanted to cut my hair to help anyone poorly who has lost their hair and needs mine.
"I had been thinking of getting my hair cut but it seemed silly to throw it away when someone could make use of it.
"My hair will grow again. This will help people feel better."
Olivia's mum Michelle Williams, who works as an eyelash artist in Lossiemouth, said: "We are so proud of her. It’s such a selfless thing to do.
"Olivia has always been one to lend a hand to others and is a kind-hearted friend to many.
"This charity is close to anyone who has had a child with cancer. At some point cancer affects everyone’s family."
Olivia is enjoying her new hairstyle and is delighted she went through with the trim.
"It's only hair to me but not to others," she said. "Mine will grow again. It's so worth it."
Michelle thanked Angela Devine, who cut Olivia's hair at Strand Hair Room, for her help.
Angela added: "We have been trimming and maintaining Olivia's long hair for years now.
"We were delighted to be part of this and are so proud of her."
