Moray filmmaker Millie Reid’s debut feature ‘One More Moment’ selected for Eden Court contest
A short film created by a budding Moray writer and director has been selected for a competition being held at Eden Court this Saturday.
‘One More Moment’ tells the story of a young couple struggling to keep their relationship intact, and is the work of Millie Reid who’s aged 18 and lives in Burghead.
The 12-minute film will feature as part of the Inverness Shorts Showcase which aims to highlight the best new and emerging talent from across the north of Scotland.
Millie, who completed an HNC in acting and performance at Moray College last year, says the basic outline for her film had been in her head for a while.
She added: “I wanted a subject that lots of people would be able to relate to — something they’ve probably experienced themselves.”
The next step was putting out a casting call on social media, to which more than 50 people replied. Among the three actors selected by Millie after they read for the parts was Grant Dobson from Elgin.
She said: “All three of them were great which, as this is the first proper film I’d directed, really helped me a lot. I also think that having acted myself made the job of being a director a little bit easier.”
The film was shot over two days in November as part of the BFI Film Academy which provides a variety of courses for 16 to 19-year-olds to help develop skills and build a career in the industry.
It was then edited over the course of three weeks, with the sound, camerawork and all the other important behind-the-scene roles carried out by young people.
Millie said: “It was intense having to get everything done in such a short space of time, but it was a lot of fun as well.
“I’m really excited about Saturday now.”
‘One More Moment’ is one of ten films that are going to be shown in the Inverness Shorts Showcase this coming Saturday.
The event begins at 6.30pm at Eden Court and will feature a Q&A with the various filmmakers, plus an audience vote for their favourite.
