Openreach engineer taken to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin after South Street roof fall
A man is in hospital after falling through a town centre roof.
An Openreach engineer was taken by ambulance to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin after falling about 12 foot through a flat roof on the town’s South Street.
The 26-year-old was at the South & Vision music shop to fit a cable when the accident occurred shortly before 10.30am.
On hearing the commotion outside, one of the practitioners from the nearby South Street Medical Practice went to the scene and delivered first aid until the paramedics arrived.
At least two ambulances and three police vehicles attended the scene within minutes of receiving the call.
Graham Flett from the music shop said the engineer had hurt his shoulder but was conscious when he was taken away in an ambulance.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 10.30am on Tuesday, August 27, to a report of a man having fallen from a roof in the South Street area of Elgin.
“A 26-year-old man has been taken to Dr Gray’s Hospital for treatment.”
The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed it was called at 10.23am.
A spokesperson said: “An ambulance and a paramedic response unit were dispatched to the scene and one patient was transported to Dr Gray’s Hospital.”
An Openreach spokesperson said: “We’re aware of an incident involving a contractor who was working for us in Elgin, and our thoughts are with them.
“Keeping people safe is our top priority and as investigations continue, we’ll work with their employer and other relevant bodies to understand exactly what happened. We would like to thank all the local responders who went to the aid of the injured engineer.”
