Lossiemouth Holiday Park situation 'escalates' as Moray MP Douglas Ross demands meeting with Park Holidays UK

CARAVAN owners claim that a site in Lossiemouth has become a "bomb site" following Park Holidays' takeover last year.

The Lossiemouth Holiday Park, formerly known as the Lossiemouth Bay Caravan Park, was sold to the holiday company last year.

Caravan owners on the site said that they were told to 'upgrade or get out' following the takeover. However, those that remain on the site claim the situation has escalated even further with concerned caravan owners contacting Moray MP Douglas Ross for help.

Mr Ross has now demanded a meeting with Park Holidays regional manager Ricky Turner.

"For them to be describing the site as a 'bomb site', shows just how much Park Holidays have neglected this caravan park in Lossiemouth," Mr Ross said.

“I was shocked by the issues that were detailed to me in the summer when I met with concerned owners but shockingly it has become even worse since then.

“I raised those concerns directly to Park Holidays but they have failed to address them and now have the cheek to increase owners' fees by over 50 per cent during a cost-of-living crisis, without providing suitable facilities to them.

"I have again contacted Park Holidays' regional manager to demand an urgent meeting with them as this situation is completely unacceptable.

"Park Holidays cannot keep avoiding their responsibilities to owners, who are at the end of their tether."

Caravan owners say that facilities on the site are being neglected.

One owner, who wants to stay anonymous, claims that the park went without water for 11 days recently, while broken washing machines and tumble dryers have not been fixed months after Park Holidays completed their takeover of the park.

Mr Ross met with representatives of Park Holidays last summer to address the situation but he says that promises that were made during the meeting have not been backed up.

He added: “They have failed to back up their warm words and promises when they last met me and it is little wonder many of those on the site are looking to sell up and leave, through no fault of their own.

“I hope Park Holidays respond as quickly as possible to my request for a further meeting and I will continue to fight for this situation to be vastly improved for all those at Lossiemouth Caravan Park."

Park Holidays have since offered to meet with Mr Ross again. The holiday park company claim that pitch fees have been set below the rate of inflation and that a small number of caravan owners were given incorrect information due to an "administrative error".

A spokesperson for Park Holidays UK said: "Park Holidays UK has offered to meet with MP Douglas Ross to discuss the matters to which he alludes.

"The meeting will also provide an opportunity for us to confirm that this year's pitch fee increase at Lossiemouth Holiday Park has been set at below the level of inflation.

"Due to an administrative error, a small number of holiday home owners at the park were initially given incorrect information about their 2023 fees, but they have since been contacted to confirm the increase has been set at less than the inflation rate."
