Moray and Highland drivers given bans for drugs or alcohol
Four motorists have been banned from driving after appearing at Elgin Sheriff Court on offences related to either drink or drugs.
Jake McLaughlin, who’s in the military, was stopped by the police at 11.35pm on February 25 while going through Elgin on the A96.
A breath test showed an alcohol reading of 81, compared to the legal limit of 22.
In addition to a 12-month ban, the 21-year-old serviceman was also fined £1425.
Lucy Hutchison, of High Street, Rothes, was also found to be over the alcohol limit.
The 37-year-old gave a reading of 76 after being stopped on Thistle Drive in Elgin on March 10.
Her case was adjourned until May 8 for social workers to compile a report, and she was banned in the meantime.
Nikolay Ludov, of High Street Buckie, also received an interim ban until his next court appearance on May 8.
The 36-year-old was stopped on March 15 on Letterfourie Road in Buckie and subsequently gave a reading of 113 – more than five times the legal alcohol limit.
Stefan Mearns, of West Church Street, Buckie, received a 12-month ban and was ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work for the community after testing positive for cannabis
The 22-year-old was stopped on the Mosstodloch bypass during the course of April 23, 2023.
He later gave a reading of 5.3 micrograms of the drug per litre of blood, when the law holds that anything above 2.0 reduces the ability to drive safely.
