Flooding has sparked flood alerts, higher-level flood warnings and some road closures in Moray and Highland after heavy and persistent rain hit the north of Scotland overnight.

A yellow Met Office weather warning was in force for western and northern parts of the Highlands on Monday morning, and is expected to remain in place until midday on Tuesday.

The rain has now sparked several flood warnings from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa). These are the next level up from a flood alert, and mean that flooding is expected and residents should "act now" to protect themselves.

There are also flood alerts for Sepa’s Findhorn, Nairn, Moray & Speyside region, as well as multiple other northern Scotland areas.

Worst affected at the moment appear to be upstream sections of the Spey catchment - with two higher-level warnings in place between the Spey Dam and Newtonmore and on the River Dulnain at Carrbridge - as well as Strathglass in Inverness-shire, the River Conon in Ross-shire, and River Oykel in Sutherland.

Highland Council has also confirmed the closures of two roads in its council area - including a stretch of the North Coast 500 at Moy Bridge.

The other closure was the U2126 in Strath Oykel at Inveroykel Bailey bridge.

More widely, there are lower level "flood alerts" in place for a number of areas. As well as the already mentioned alert for Findhorn, Nairn, Moray & Speyside, there are also alerts in place in the north for - Caithness and Sutherland, Easter Ross and Great Glen, Wester Ross, and Skye & Lochaber.
