Elgin Town Hall final gig before closure - ‘Farewell (for now) Fling’

Elgin Town Hall is set for its final gig before closing for the next two years for a multi-million pound refurbishment.

The ‘Farewell (for now) Fling’ on Sunday will feature Moray musicians who have graced the venue in recent times, bringing a family-friendly party atmosphere to the Mother’s Day event.

Opening the afternoon’s final musical extravaganza on his acoustic guitar will be melodic rock singer and guitarist Danny Mortimer.

Elgin-born and bred, Danny has treaded the boards of the town hall stage on numerous occasions showcasing his ear-catching brand of rock.

Emerging Moray artist Lewis Wiles takes his place on the bill offering a unique Speyside blend of self-penned indie folk-pop.

A founding member of trad favourites ‘Kilderkin’ and ‘Footerin Aboot’, this will be Lewis’ first full band show since going solo in 2023, and comes fresh off the release of his debut single ‘Two Weeks’.

Closing the curtain will be headliners and Moray’s premier Americana outfit, ‘the forty elephants’. Since forming in 2018, the band has grown from strength to strength, garnering a local cult following with their foot-stomping mix of country, folk and punk covers and original songs.

A spokesperson for Elgin Town Hall for the Community said, “Join us for the final event before refurbishment!”

“This is your last chance to experience the heart of our community before we temporarily close for exciting upgrades. Don’t miss an afternoon of celebration, memories, and your chance to enjoy local bands and artists.”

“We can’t but thank the community for their support over the last few years and can’t wait to welcome you all back in 2027.”

Elgin’s Qismat Street Food will be on hand to keep revellers from going hungry, offering a selection of curries and street food.

Tickets for the Farewell (for now) Fling, priced at £15 for adults and £5 for under 12s, are available online at elgintownhall.co.uk. Doors open from 2pm.

Elgin Town Hall’s doors will be closed to the public from Monday, March 31.

Planning permission was granted in November for the building’s refurbishment as part of Moray Council’s £28.2 million Cultural Quarter project.

The council issued a public call last Wednesday for a contractor to carry out the work, with a deadline of April 30 for submitting a tender.
