Elgin’s Procurator Fiscal office on South Street will close for nine months from next Monday while an extensive refit is carried out.

The renovations will include replacing all windows, installing a new heating system, and insulating all external walls.

The aim is to allow the office to further adopt renewable energy sources.

A small operational team will be based in an annexe at the town's police station on Moray Street until the project is completed, with the remaining fiscal staff working from home.

The refit is part of a Scotland-wide commitment by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) to become carbon neutral by 2040.

Alison McKenzie, Procurator Fiscal for Aberdeen, said: "We can be enormously proud of the pioneering role our staff in Elgin are playing in helping COPFS to decarbonise.

"In Elgin the installation of solar panels is already helping us to embrace renewable energy.

"It is reassuring to know that year-round, but especially in Spring, Summer and Autumn, our solar panels are providing a sizeable proportion of our energy needs.

"COPFS is committed to transforming workspaces to create modern, ecologically efficient and environmentally friendly spaces."
