Duxes awarded to Elgin High School pupils Alfie Harper and Euan Mackay
ELGIN High School's head teacher has praised the "academic attainment and personal achievement" of pupils after the school's awards night.
Adam Ibragimov was named S6 dux, with Alfie Harper winning the S5 dux and Euan Mackay the S4 award.
On top of those three, a number of pupils were given credit for exceptional performance and achievement throughout the academic year.
Alfie Harper, winner of the S5 dux, added the trophy to the S4 dux, which he won last year. He also received Best In Year in Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Business.
He said: "It is a great honour to have won dux twice in a row and great to be recognised for all the work I've put in.
"It's fantastic to be recognised for our achievements. At a lot of schools it goes unnoticed when people do well, but it is great that here we take the time to recognise people who perform well.
"And it's not just about winning dux or Best In Year, we recognise people who have overcome things and that is just as important."
S4 dux Euan Mackay, who also received Best In Year for Maths, Engineering Science, Physics and Geography, was also credited with an extra-curricular fundraising effort.
He said: "I feel really honoured. I spent half a year getting my head down and doing the work I needed to do to get to here. But it's really unexpected for me to win this."
Head teacher Hugh McCulloch praised all award winners for their efforts over the year.
"We are delighted to celebrate both the academic attainment and personal achievement of every young person, irrespective of their age or ability," he said.
"That's what it's all about at Elgin High School – being truly inclusive and celebrating the achievements of everyone."
