Speaking at Elgin Sheriff Court, fiscal depute Karen Poke said: “The accused stated he was not someone to be messed with and told the witness he shouldn’t sleep well that night.”

The court heard that the 38-year-old then turned his anger towards another neighbour who was sunbathing in her garden, calling her a “fat lesbian” and threatening to harm her cats.

Sim continued to shout, swear and act belligerently when the police arrived on the scene at Manitoba Avenue in Elgin.

He was arrested after calling one of the officers a “lesbian ****”.

Defence solicitor Matthew O’Neill stated that his client wished to apologise to everyone concerned for his behaviour.

Adding that Sim had consumed alcohol, the lawyer continued: “He concedes that he did wrong on that day.”

Sheriff Olga Pasportnikov ordered the defendant to pay £100 to Police Scotland to compensate for the cost of cleaning the cell.

In addition Sim was placed on a home curfew between the hours of 7pm and 7am for the next four months.

Finally, he was put under the supervision of the court for the next nine months.
