Glenlivet Post Office in Moray to close permanently as MSP Douglas Ross expresses ‘disappointment’

A rural village’s post office will close permanently next month after the resignation of its postmaster.

Glenlivet Post Office will shut on November 11 at 11am after notification of closure was launched yesterday (October 1).

The branch will close next month.

A letter sent to customers reads: “The Post Office has undertaken a comprehensive review of the network to ensure that it continues to meet evolving customer needs in a very challenging economic climate.

“This review examined the network at a very detailed, local level, analysing customer demand and accessibility of Post Office products and services.

“Consequently, it has informed our plans for the network as we work to ensure that, our funding and resources are allocated to deliver maximum benefit for all customers.

“At this time, therefore, we are not looking to replace Glenlivet Post Office.

“Future provision will reflect customer numbers and usage and we may take the opportunity to establish an alternative type of service.

“This may be a local style branch which runs alongside an established retail shop in newly refurbished premises and creates a more modern and convenient experience for customers.”

Glenlivet residents will now have to travel around four miles to access branches in either Ballindalloch or Tomnavoulin instead.

Highlands and Islands MSP Douglas Ross has expressed his “disappointment” following news of the post office’s closure.

He said: “Local people will be able to use branches at either Ballindalloch or Tomnavoulin and I hope they use these services but it is not the same as having one in the community.

“Public transport in this area is sparse, so people who need post office services will either have to drive or rely on friends and neighbours for a lift.

“If any constituents who might face difficulties caused by the closure of Glenlivet branch can get in touch with me, I will ensure any concerns are passed on to the Post Office at a national level.”
