A late-night message resulted in a wild swimming club from Moray being filmed for a new TV show featuring two household names.

David and Jay's Touring Toolshed arrived in Cullen last week, with stars Sir David Jason and Jay Blades staying at the Seafield Arms Hotel.

The program has been created to celebrate amateur craftspeople right across the UK.

However, the production team were looking to capture some local atmosphere so they contacted Emma Williams from the Wild Dookers.

Emma said: "We'd been swimming at Sandend during the day on Saturday, and had actually been talking about how David Jason and Jay Blades were in Cullen.

"Then completely out of the blue at about 10.30pm that night I got a message to ask if we could come along the next morning."

Emma spread the word and, despite the quick turnaround, nearly 20 of the Wild Dookers were at Cullen Beach in their swimming gear at 8.30am on Sunday.

They were interviewed on camera, then filmed going for a bracing dip in the Moray Firth.

At which point the dookers had a smart idea.

First, they approached local artist Rob Greenwood from Morayart.co.uk to buy one of his paintings.

On finding out why, he agreed to let them have it for free.

Then they approached Sir David Jason and Jay Blades and asked them to sign the painting.

On learning that it was for charity, the pair were happy to oblige.

Anyone wanting the chance to win the painting has until Sunday to buy a raffle ticket.

All the cash will go to Latnem, a support group for women giving birth.

Emma, who lives in Keith and works as a childminder, said: "It was interesting to watch the filming take place.

"At one point Jay Blades came over and thanked us for agreeing to take part.

"David Jason also waved. They were very friendly."

The Wild Dookers have nearly 1500 followers on Facebook, and regularly welcome 40 or more folk to their wild swims.

They will be at Cullen Beach tonight at 8pm and at Banff Links from noon on Sunday.
