Moray Council reassures public that school safety threat ‘swiftly resolved’
A “threat to safety” at Moray schools has been “swiftly resolved”, according to the council.
A Moray Council spokesperson said Police Scotland had been “involved immediately” when three schools in the area were threatened.
The schools followed “police guidance and standard protocols”, according to the spokesperson, and parents updated about the situation.
Police Scotland earlier confirmed that a 19-year-old had been arrested in connection with a “malicious email” sent to Moray and Highland schools.
“We’re aware of an incident on Friday morning at three schools in Forres involving a threat to safety,” the Moray Council spokesperson added.
“The schools involved followed police guidance and standard protocols to deal with the situation, which was resolved swiftly and parents and carers have been updated.”
Parents and carers of Applegrove Primary School pupils were sent a statement at around 11am.
The message confirmed that “increased security measures and vigilance” had been imposed following the threat.
“As the incident was resolved swiftly a full lockdown or evacuation was not necessary, however there will continue to be a police presence around the schools to reassure staff, pupils, parents and nearby residents,” the statement said.
Parents of children at Forres Academy were also sent the same statement.
