'Cotton Eye Joe' singers Rednex to come to MacMoray Festival, joined by Banff's Sandi Thom and Drew Dixon
THE band behind the smash hit Cotton Eye Joe are set to bring their karaoke classic to the MacMoray Family Easter Festival in Elgin.
Swedish eurodance country group Rednex are set to play at the festival, joined by Sandi Thom, from Banff, and Drew Dixon.
Rednex gained global fame in 1994 when they released the reworked version of the classic American folk song Cotton Eye Joe, which hit number one across the world.
However, despite their popularity here, this will be their first ever visit to Scotland as a band.
Sandi Thom, who was born in Banff before moving to Macduff as a youngster, is well-known for her hit I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker, which hit number one in the UK charts in June 2006.
Drew Dixon, from Tennessee, USA, is returning to MacMoray after a successful visit to this year's event, where he performed on the second stage. He plays a mix of delta blues and southern gothic music.
Event organiser Andy Macdonald was delighted to add the trio to the festival's line-up.
"The Rednex have never been to Scotland before, so it's going to be an exciting first for them and for fans," he said.
"Sandi Thom is local to the area, coming from Banff, so she's a well-known face in the area and will be a hit.
"Drew Dixon performed last year on the second stage and is now opening the main stage. He is back due to popular demand."
A total of 13 acts have now been confirmed for the festival, which is due to take place on April 29 and 30, 2023, at Elgin's Cooper Park.
That leaves one more act to take the festival to the promised total of 14 artists across the two days.
However, there is also a second stage – with acts set to perform there to be announced in two weeks time.
