Community invited to support Elgin City Band and St Sylvester's Primary School choir at Christmas Concert
THE community is being invited to support Elgin City Band at their annual Christmas concert.
The 18th edition of the concert, returning after an enforced break due to the coronavirus pandemic, will take place at 7pm on Sunday, December 4, at St Giles' Church in Elgin.
The band will be joined by youngsters from St Sylvester's Primary School, who are this year's chosen primary school choir.
Chairperson Heather Park said: "We have a very pleasant evening of Christmas music with carols for everyone to join in with.
"We are always joined by a children's choir, which this year is from St Sylvester's Primary School.
"It makes all the difference to the atmosphere having the kids there. It'll be a light-hearted, family-orientated event.
"We hope people come along and support us for what promises to be a very enjoyable evening.
"With the size of St Giles' Church, we can have lots of people in so the more, the merrier."
Entrance costs £5, with little ones getting in free, and will likely finish up between 9pm and 9.30pm, with an interval in the middle of the evening.
"We very much appreciate the support," Heather, who plays cornet in the band, added.
"We have not overspent but it's expensive to keep a band going, with the cost of renting venues, repairs and insurance.
"The fact that we are still operating at full capacity says a lot about past and present members who have kept the band going through thick and thin.
"We are part of the history of Elgin and the surrounding area and we hope people continue to support us now and in the future."
Elgin City Band dates all the way back to 1858, and continues to have a steady number of members – with around 30 of varying ages despite the pandemic's impact.
The band continues to welcome new members, who can attend weekly rehearsals at 7pm in Bishopmill Primary School sports hall on a Wednesday evening.
