Turriff Show champion of champions awarded to Charollais sheep
Turriff Show’s champion of champions was crowned on the second day of the 160th anniversary event with the title going to a three-year-old Charollais ewe.
It is owned by family business W & C Ingram based at Logie Durno Farm, Pitcaple, near Inverurie.
The sheep has had a successful year after it also won at the Royal Highland Show and the Royal Welsh Show.
It was up against the overall cattle champion a Simmental cow Annick Ginger’s Lucia from Keith-based R & A Simmers, which was awarded reserve champion of champions.
The Clydesdale horse champion was gelding Bogton Ironman from Keely Gordon based in Kintore.
The in-hand horse champion large breeds mountain and moorland pony Bracklinn Rosebud showed by Kirsty Dunning and the ridden horse champion small breeds mountain and moorland pony Lingardswood Sarsaparilla from Shannon Mair, which both won the day before, were unable to attend.
The Supreme Championship was judged by Dennis Gall of Lockerbie.
Gregor Ingram of W & C Ingram said of the victory: “We are a family business and this is one of our local shows, so it is absolutely fantastic to win.
“The sheep is a home-bred Charollais ewe. She’s been shown all season this year and was champion at the Royal Highland Show and champion at the Royal Welsh Show.
“Turriff is one of the most difficult shows to win and the cattle and the horse we were up against were of phenomenal standard.
“To be picked overall from the best of all the sections by a judge who has a huge amount of experience in livestock of all types is amazing.
“In farming you have a long winter and a lot of tough times.
“We then all get to meet up in the summer time at the shows which is great.”
