Buckie Classic Car Show hail success of inaugural Cars and Coffee entry drive
A popular car show’s drive for entries has exceeded all expectations.
Buckie Classic Car Show set out their stall recently in Linzee Gordon Park in the town for their inaugural Cars and Coffee event.
Aimed at allowing people to register for this year’s car show - due to be held at the park on August 31 - it was also a chance for those not necessarily confident with online methods of booking to make sure of their slot at the annual extravaganza.
A leisurely afternoon of cuppas and a chat proved to be rather busier, as car show chairman John Clark, explained.
“What a cracking day we had and it was a massive success.
“We couldn’t believe it and a lot of older folk just loved it.
“Initially we were thought maybe 50 to 70 folk would maybe turn up but we were gobsmacked as at one point we had 270 cars in the park.
“We used 28 pints of milk and the biscuits got a good hammering. Folk of all ages came along had a cup of coffee and a blether and filled in a entry form for our 2025 main show in August
“We heard some folk were staying at Findochty and Portgordon over the whole weekend.
“When we went to count up all the entries we could not believe we’d taken 654 entries through single entries and club stand entries.
“Then the next day we opened the main entry website and within a hour and a half that we had 129 entries and we closed with the show being full. We could not believe it the show filled up quicker than last year .
“Up in Elgin the Moray Motor Museum also had a Cars and Coffee morning from 10am to 12am and when they finished their lunch they all drove to Buckie.
“The weather really helped it was a fantastic day.”
The day attracted young and old alike, with the youngest entrant to this year’s show aged just 14 while, at the other end of the spectrum the oldest was a venerable 90 years old.
Among the vintage vehicles turning up to the event, Buckie Cars and Coffee also welcomed an 84-year-old man from Elgin who brought along his four-year-old Ford Puma, which had less than 500 miles on the clock.
Mr Clark added: “We can’t wait to the main show on August 31 this year.”
Last year’s show witnessed a record 770 entries as soaring demand saw places rapidly snapped up.
