Antiques Roadshow's Lee Young heading to Moray

ANTIQUES Roadshow expert Lee Young will be in Moray and the Highlands next week ready to unearth some hidden treasures.

He is offering free of charge valuation appointments for local residents who have what they think might be Oriental treasures in their homes.

The Asian Art Department of Lyon & Turnbull, Scotland’s oldest auction house, is behind a north of Scotland tour.

Their specialists aim to raise awareness about this booming art market and are likely to unearth many fascinating artefacts that could generate some real surprises for their owners at auction.

Last year they helped a lady in Invernesshire sell a Chinese robe, which was used for dressing up and was about to go to a charity shop, for £15,000 at auction, which was six times its estimate.

A resident in Aberdeenshire kept clutter in a pair of bowls on her mantelpiece and, after a visit from the specialists, learned that the bowl was in fact a celadon-ground iron-red phoenix medallion bowl (Daoguang seal mark and of the period), which fetched £9,500.

The team will be carrying out valuations from Monday.

For readers who wish to get in touch and want to make an appointment, they simply call Sara Pierdominici on 0131 557 8844 or email sara@lyonandturnbull.com

Lines will be open for people to call over the weekend.
