Anti-5G group protest on Elgin's Plainstones

AN ANTI-5G protest group took to the streets at the weekend to get their message across to Moray folk.

Stop 5G In Moray were on Elgin's Plainstones on Saturday, January 25, from 11am until 2pm handing out leaflets to passers-by.

Daphne Francis, the group's Chair, believed more than 700 leaflets were handed out and the group were generally well received.

She said: "The weather held up and there was a small but committed group, who handed out 700 to 800 leaflets.

"The public were quite receptive and a lot of them had heard of the issues.

"Other people had never heard of the problems but were interested and took a leaflet – particularly parents with young kids."

Fifth generation (5G) networks are in line to replace 3G and 4G networks across the United Kingdom.

However, Stop 5G In Moray believe it should be prevented due to health concerns, and the damage it can cause to the environment.

She added: "This level of speed hasn't been tested independently. There has been studies by doctors and they are concerned.

"The Lancet medical magazine did an independent review and if there is prolonged exposure to EMF (electromagnetic fields) it could cause health problems.

"It damages DNA and increases the risk of cancer. It also poses risk to children and pregnant women.

"At the moment, insurance companies will cover a range of illnesses but not anything to do with EMF. This means they think the risk is too high and they could be hit in the longer term.

"Not only are humans affected but trees, plants, birds and particularly bees. Their navigation systems are affected by EMF."

Daphne currently Chairs a core group of five who meet every two or three weeks. The group's Facebook page, though, has 130 likes.

If you are interested in the cause, Daphne invites you to get involved by joining the group's meets – which take place at the house of members.
