Moray Council is looking to lease a building at Kinloss Primary School to a new childcare provider

Moray Council is offering a former janitor’s house in a local village to childcare providers.

The building within the grounds of Kinloss Primary School has been used as an out-of-school care facility for the past decade but is now vacant as former lease-holder Kinloss Crafty Cool Kids Club’s is pursuing other opportunities.

Chairwoman of the local authority’s Education Children’s and Leisure Services Committee, Councillor Kathleen Robertson, believes this is an “exciting opportunity” for a local childcare provider.

She said: “The building is ideal for supporting families, and the hope would be to continue to function at the capacity previously provided with Care Inspectorate agreement.”

Moray Council is looking for expressions of interest from childcare providers who want to lease the building and continue offering essential services such as breakfast clubs, after-school programs and holiday care.

The facility is ideally suited for children aged 5-12 years. It includes a reception hall, office, quiet room, playroom, kitchen, and toilets, as well as a separate disabled WC. The property is served by mains electricity, water, and gas-fired central heating.

Additionally, the building features a secure, fenced outdoor play area and access to three designated parking areas within the school grounds.

Kinloss Crafty Cool Kids Club had up to 30 children registered and usually had up to 20 per day.

Any new service provider would need to acquire all service specific conditions to support full Care Inspectorate registration

The lease terms are flexible, ranging from three to ten years on a full repairing and insurance basis, with offers over £5150 per annum being invited.

Rent reviews will be conducted on a three-year cycle, and the council will arrange building insurance, with the cost being recovered from the tenant.

“We’d dearly like to see a new service continue the high standard of care previously provided,” said Cllr Robertson. “This is a great opportunity to meet the growing demand for childcare in the community.”
