A road traffic incident closed the A96 both ways on the eastern outskirts of Elgin on Saturday morning.

Motorists have been warned that diversions are in place following the incident between the Linkwood Roundabout and the Travelodge Roundabout.

Confirming the closure at 4.12am on Saturday, Traffic Scotland said: “The A96 is closed in both directions between the Linkwood Roundabout and The Travel Lodge Roundabout, Elgin due to a road traffic incident. Road users are advised to use the available diversion route.”

A further update at 6.06am urged drivers to “allow extra travel time”.

No further details as to the nature of the incident were immediately available.
