Lossiemouth United pull off massive shock result by defeating Scottish Junior Cup’s most successful club on their own patch

Lossiemouth United pulled off the biggest result in their history by toppling the most successful Scottish junior club.

Auchinleck Talbot are the kings of junior football, having reached the Scottish Junior cup final 17 times and lifting the trophy on 14 occasions.

But they found their match on Saturday as a travelling team from the second tier of the north region scene registered an incredible result.

Many expected the Ayrshire giants to run out easy winners but they found Lossie a tough nut to crack and only made a scoring breakthrough in the closing moments of the first half.

That could have knocked the stuffing out of Lossie but they equalised ten minutes after the break when Jack Macarthur raced down the line and caught the home keeper off his line with a looping effort.

Six minutes later the shock was on when United won a corner and Finley mcKay swung the ball over for Harvey Henderson to score at the back post.

The Moray side dug deep to hold on to their lead but when Talbot equalised with just nine minutes left, they were expected to go on and win it from there.

But the biggest moment in United’s proud history arrived in the 87th minute when Callum Milton’s floated ball over the Auchinleck defence released Alex Matczak and he smashed the ball home for what proved to be a glorious winner.
