RUNNERS of all ages and abilities are invited to take part in a local annual event.

The Forres Harriers 10k around Waterford and Whiteinch - this year on Saturday, May 11 at 2pm - is an ideal opportunity for anyone considering the distance in a safe, familiar setting alongside experienced athletes looking to encourage the best finish times possible for everyone who takes part.

Harrier of more than three years, Kasia Klonowska (40), confirmed participants travel from all over the north to attend.

She said: "The Forres 10k is organised for local runners and visitors alike. It's over a flat, fast course on quiet country roads - ideal for runners of all abiliities.

"There is a good chance of gaining a personal best, the entry fee is minimal and the atmosphere is great too!"

The route starts at Waterford Industrial Estate and heads north past Moray Waste Busters. It follows around the north of Inverene, past Netherton Farm then out towards Kinloss, turning near Whiteinch, heading back along Waterford Road to the finish at the start.

Registration will take place from midday-1.30pm in St Leonard's Church Hall.

Entry fees are £15 for Scottish Athletics members and £17 for non-members via https://www.entrycentral.com/event/124893.

No entries on the day are allowed.

Entries will close at midnight on Friday, May 3 or if the maximum field of 200 is reached.

Last year, 140 runners completed the course. Senior Ross Gollan from East Sutherland Athletics Club was the winner in 30 minutes 58 seconds - the first time the revised local course was run, hence setting the new course record.

"Free refreshments will be available in the hall afterwards," said Kasia. "Cakes and sandwiches are provided by club members.

"Chat with us about how your race went over a cup of tea!"

Attendees are advised to walk to the start near Keith Builders Merchants and to bring their own drinks as there are no water stations on the course. Headphones are not permitted.
