Watch: Elgin City manager Allan Hale says he will seek emergency loan signing as goalkeeper Tom McHale faces months out after playing on at Forfar Athletic despite “significant damage” to his ankle

Elgin City are on the hunt for a new goalkeeper due to a bad ankle injury sustained by regular Tom McHale.

City manager Allan Hale said in a video interview below that McHale sustained “significant damage” to his ankle during Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Forfar Athletic.

Hale hopes to tie up an emergency loan keeper to play in Saturday’s SPFL Trust Trophy third round tie at Kelty Hearts.

He will then look to tie up a longer term loan deal until January to tide Elgin over for the period McHale is expected to be missing.

The manager said there was no definite timescale for his number one to recover but revealed there had been fears over the weekend that McHale had broken his ankle.

X-rays have revealed no break and the club are awaiting results of a scan which will determine if there has been serious ankle ligament damage or other issues.

Hale commended his keeper for playing on against Forfar despite being in a lot of pain, but admitted his bravery had come at a cost.
